Subject: Passenger power lock doesn't work IP: Logged
Message: I've got a 99 Dakota SLT 4X4 318. My passenger side lock no longer responds to the power controls. Neither the remote nor either door button will operate the lock. It works fine with the key or by hand, but not by power. It began to work intermittently and now seems to have stopped altogether. Drivers side works fine. Any ideas on this? Thanks!

Message: Get your torx bit out and pop the door off and take a look. Might just be a couple screws and a connector? It took the guys at the dealership 1/2 hour or so so it can't be too bad.

Message: It decided to go back to intermittently working. Still could be a bad actuator? I have 51K miles, so I dont think I'll be getting any warranty coverage :). Thanks for the response.

Message: When it works , does it sound funny? Mine went bad , and it sounded like a rabbit in a blender. (no , I'v never actually heard a rabit in a blender , don't ask.) Took about 3 days for the dealer to get the part , and 1/2 hour to change. They say its common for this to happen. And I only have 12,500 miles on the truck. Oh well , gotta love the warranty.

Message: It sounds fine when it does work. I think I'll just look into replacing the part on my own. Any idea how much one of these actuators costs? Thanks!

Message: I would be checking for voltage and all that cr*p before I would throw an actuator at it...H*ll could be the ground side of the circuit! Next time it quits take a rubber head hammer and right at the latch (actuator) give it a love tap and another thing to try is flicking the button..like you would kick the triangle in table top football. I have seen them give off a buzzing/humming sound, the last few screams before they stop and then again the button working only half the time. You should be hoping it's not the body control module (BCM). With the door panel off..using the test light to battery ground..check for voltage at the actuator connector...backprobe the connector, try not to damage it...if you re not getting the light go back up the wire...."out" side of switch.."in" side of swicth...and so on....
