Subject: Anyone "feel" their 4WD while accel'ing IP: Logged
Message: OK, I'm gonna have a hard time describing this.
This evening coming home from work was the second time I've put my truck in 4WD due to snowny, slippery roads. Both times I could "feel" the gears in the front transaxle while accel'ing to driving speeds. It's not the power feeling difference (pushing vs pulling), its more of a feeling that you actually "feel" the gears turning. My last vehicle was 4WD, and I never noticed the feel of the front gears, just the power feeling difference.
Anyway, anyone else notice something that sounds like this? I'm not low on fluids, I just had everything checked a week ago at a scheduled oil change.
I have a 02' QC. 4.7 auto.

Message: Have a '95, 4X4. Entering into 4WD is flawless and instantaneous. While driving, there is a slight but noticeable gear "whine" while the front wheels are engaged. Although my truck is not used frequently in 4WD, it has over 80K miles with no problems. The NVG 231 transfer case seems to be a solid and dependable unit (if that's what you have). Had an S-10 prior to the DAK and it also made a slight noise while in 4X4.

Message: BobbyD,
I know the feeling you are talking about, I have a 2002 quad 4x4 and have driven in 4high and low quite a bit.
I can feel a slight extra bit of vibration in the peddal,... it is hard to explain, but I feel it too.

Message: I sometimes put mine in 4x4. And it does ok. Just have to avoid going over thick tree limbs and steep hills.
Also, when you switch back in 2wd, do you back up a couple of feet or just keep going foward. I don't know if its recomended for the NVG-231 series transfercase. But I just do it anyway to make sure that the gears are unlocked.

Message: Felt it today too, and only used 2WD. Either I'm trippin' or it's the cold (near 0 degrees) weather.
Jaggy explained it well, it is like a very minimal vibration on the floorboard and accelerator.
