This is my first post and most of you guys already know this but the 2004 dodge dakota will have a 5.9L hemi. Just found this out and thought you guys might want to know...

Like the Durango, the upcoming Dakota has been successfully kept from prying eyes, so very little information is known. Expect the same engine lineup with the addition of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 for the R/T version. Sorry for the above typo.

ive been thinking about this.
they JUST introduced the DURANGO R/T at the detroit auto show with the 5.7 hemi. i was there and it looks better in person than it does in pics. anyways, they had no new dakota there. well they had one with the new stampede there, but nothing rally "new"
if there is going to be a "new" dakota.... why didnt they do a dakota R/T concept along with the durango R/T????? they have been built on the same platform. so if they make a new dakota will it be on a new platform?
IF they make a new dakota, i think it will be introduced at next years auto show. and be avail. for the 2005 model. with the 5.7 hemi of course.

from what ive heard the 04 durango is getting bigger some what ram sized. and the 04 dakotas are getting downsized . so they are begining to further distance themselves from each other. as far as engines . i heard the durango has a hemi . and have heard rumors the dakotas will but nothing for certain on the daks.

I agree a new dakota will be unveiled next year, and go into production the following year. My guess is it stays the same size, or gets smaller. DC may need to be able to meet fuel economy regulations, as well as a market for small trucks, so it makes sense to downsize the dakota. My guess is they will drop the 5.9 and make the engine bay just big enough to hold a 4.7 and go from there, and maybe offer the 4.7HO if they can cross over lines with it.

No way there will be a redesigned Dakota for 2004. They may very well put the Hemi in the current style Dakota for 2004 but no way there will be a complete redesign. The Durango "concept" came out about as late as a new model can and still make the next years production. Keep in mind the 2004's will start rolling off assembly lines in july and august of 2003 not that far away. The Dakota WAS going to be redesigned with the Durango for a 2004 release but that was when it was also going to share the platform. That platform is to big so the Dakota went back to the drawing board. Look for the Dakota "concept" to come out this time next year at the autoshows for a 2005 model release. The best of both worlds would be to put the Hemi in the current body style for a 2004 final hoorah and then also include it in the 2005 model, that way if you don't like the new style great, but traditionally they have trouble selling an old body style right before the new one comes out. If a 4.7 fits then the new Hemi will fit, they are very close in overall size.

The 2004 models will start building April/May, and the new Durango isn't Ram sized at all. It's 4 inches longer and 1/2" wider than the current model. That's not even close to Ram size. Get your facts straight on the size of the new Durango. The damn production and shipping dates are still up in the air (pretty late in the ballgame).
