Subject: shifting/trans IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 quad cap w/the 360 and an auto. When cruising at speeds above 60 mph it acts like it starts to shift out of OD, but not all the way. The engine jumps about 300 rpm and I can hear and feel a change. Almost like the converter is locking or unlocking, but doesn't complete the shift. Sometimes it will do this about 3 or 4 times every minute or so. It doesn't do it when it is under a slight load (climbing an incline in OD) or when under no load (going downhill). I've had it to the local (and only) dealer here in Po-dunk Utah and they are clueless. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Message: i have had similar problems with mine, only it seems to happen going from gear to gear. it will start to shift, but then jump rpm's,sometimes jumping until more pressure is put on the accelerator. almost feels like a slipping rear end. thought it could be a bad trans., but with 40K? any help would be apprectiated!! thanks!

Message: Its the O2 sensor. The sensor is adjusting when the RPM's fluxuate and it is normal for it to do that.

Message: My 2000 v6 is starting to do the same engine surge or shifting thing described above. But if that's normal (such as the O2 sensor causing it) then why does my truck feel like it's losing power at those points? Wouldn't normal be "Feels a little weird but I can still accelerate into traffic?" OK, so replacing TPS may fix it, maybe replacing O2 sensor. Any other tips Thanks

Message: I would recommend looking into tps sensor. My 2001 4.7 4 speed did same thing. I pulled out sensor and cleaned connections and worked sensor back and forth a bit. The problem is gone along with the surging idle it had. If ckeck engine light comes on just disconnect batt for 3 mins. If problem persists change sensor.
