Subject: 95 Dodge Ram Sport Paint Problem IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1995 Red Dodge Ram Sport with 61,000 miles...within the last two years the clear coat on the roof has begun to flake in three areas, exposing the grey primer...even though I had wax on the truck....My friend also has a 1995 Red Ram 1500 pick up, 69,000 miles, the very same thing is happening to his truck in the same spot....
This idiot that keeps telling us to buy a Ford truck if we don't like peeling paint must work for Chrysler....My friend and I are going to give them a chance to resolve the issue, and if it is not handled PROMPTLY we are suing Chrysler for new paint jobs....there is too much evidence of lousy paint, especially when my 1992 Honda still looks like new....can you read "class action"??....

Message: sorry to tell you this but that sort of thing has already been tried, and the judge's involved in the many cases has always thrown it out. Afterall the thing is 8 years old!

Message: I seem to remember reading something about this a while back. Chrysler issued a dealer recall, ie: the public doesn't know about it, about a known defect in the primer which prevented proper adhesion of the paint. Unfortunately, they also placed a time/mileage limit on this recall so unless it happened in the first 5 years of the vehicle's life, you're SOL legally.
Then again, I've seen just as many Chevy's of the same vintage with the exact same problem. I'm lucky my '91 Dakota is still in incredibly great shape considering its year/color are on the recall list.

Message: We have a red dodge ram 1500 v8 truck. The paint is peeling off hood and top of truck and starting to peel in other spots. We bought truck used, but had low mileage. Is there a recall on this? If not, where's the best place to get painted reasonably in Atlanta, GA area?

Message: I gotta a '95 Dakota with the same problems.
Dark Blue.Roof and extended cab panels only.
Primer becomes exposed in a very small
area-the size of a quarter. Then grows like
cancer. More spots apear and the same
thing. The exposed grey primer eventually
begins to rust. Independent body shop tells
me that the whole roof, etc. needs to be
completely stripped down to the metal,
re-primed and painted again.
Dealer says that "it happened to alot of other
manufacturers in '95...it was actually a
defective primer supplied by a primer
company to all the big 3." What a crock of sh..
Can't we all get together, tell the right person
(with deep pockets-who's that?- and get them
to give in??

Message: ford had the same prob. back with the 89 models. mustangs and f150's. I had a 89 stang and the hood faded and went to get it fixed and they was like its too late with your car. something about they tried a new paint( translation something cheaper lol) so all car companies has this prob and they dont want to fix it if they dont have to. I hate to say but a 95 aint no way yo uwill get DC to repaint your old truck. and no judge will side with you on that. to many varables of how the truck was treated. if you really like your truck. just sand it and paint it.

Honda Bakes there PAINT on Clear Coat may be a different story..
I have 2 Honda's that look great as far as paint but no real Shine. Then again my other is Flawless.. Got to maintain that maintance on them. When did they Introduce Clear Coat? 50's - 60's you had to Wax and polish like a Pro.. That's Old America where are Cars were made to last..
Take care..
