I have read almost every post on this site about warped drum and rotors issues. It seems the recommended aftermarket rotor is Powerslot, but nobody has posted anything about a good drum replacement. Has anybody gone with an aftermarket rear drum and pads to eliminate the hassle of returning to Dodge every 7500 miles??? At 20000 miles, my 2001 QC is starting to pulse, and since I love the truck I would like to eliminate the problem at the origin by purchasing good parts. So who has tried aftermarket drums, or is there any other fix that will allow longevity in the rear brakes?

A carbon metallic type brake shoe in the rear would help out a lot. I have not looked into any brands yet, but I'm 99.9% positive they exist. I had a set on my S-10 drums. Never touched em in 100,000K miles, just resurfaced rotors once or twice. Same as the fronts, the pads/shoes are too hard, since they want long life and no lawsuits. But obviously, that has a price in high disc/drum wear.

After having four sets of rear drums and shoes replaced within 20,000 miles, my dealership replaced the cheap factory setup with new Raybestos drums/shoes. I have had absolutely no problems with the rear brakes since. The last set of factory drums were so badly out of round right from the Mopar box that they couldn't be turned. The stock setup is total junk.

Well this is what happens when NAFTA takes hold. COmpanies prefer cheap coolie mexican labor and thus source parts from there. problem is, you get what you pay for. I had the same thing, got some American made drums from Bendix and have never looked back.
Chrysler and others seem to think 5 bucks a day wage in Mexico is great for the bottom line but do they ever total up warranty costs and the cost of gaining back displeased owners? Probably not. Nor do they consider that laid off workers do not make good future customers for cars trucks and suvs. Its kinda hard to get a loan when you are collecting umemployment. Which is why they continue to loose market share to the japanese and soon the koreans.

NAFTA=No American Factories Taking Applications!

Proper lugnut torque is the most critical aspect of all these problems. 23,000 miles, 3 tire rotations, not one brake problem.

2002 QC 4x4 Sport Plus, 4.7L, auto, Patriot Blue, Tire & Handling group,
Heavy Duty Service group, Leer cap w/out windows, Mopar Step bars and roof rack, Rhino liner in bed and on step bars, Pace Edwards Power Tailgate lock
3.55 rear, 4-wheel anti-lock brakes, all possible fluids are AMSOIL
