Message: I recently purchased a 2001 Dakota Sport with 55,ooo miles. after having the truck 2 weeks I had what I thought was a caliper lock up on the passenger side. I replaced it for with a new one.Now after 1 week I am experiencing the same thing on the drivers side.Heavy vibration and pulling to the left. After I stop their is a lot of smoke coming from the wheel with a very strong brake oder.I have had numerious cars and trucks in the past but I have never had both calipers go at the same time.

Message: The surge is from the engine - not gas slosh... I've had it too.. The RPM jumps momentarily and the truck lurches forward a bit. U gotta step on the brakes a little harder to keep from jumping ahead. It's not gas tank slosh...

Message: Yeah, but this guy is saying that smoke is coming from the disc brake/rotor assembly...no engine surge could cause that...

Message: Check your brake fluid. Both of mine just locked up and it was because the brake reservoir had trash or something in it. It is a self contained system. If yours has something in it let us know. They are not covering mine under warranty, it should be. I have never had the brakes lock up on any of my vehicle’s. I have had mine two year, brought it new. Just had to have the intermediate stearing bearing replaced, under warranty.

Message: I had the brake issue also caused by a slide pin seizing up. I pulled the caliper, cleaned the hell outta it and regreased it with some Dow high temp grease, replaced the unevenly worn pads, reassembled it and have had no problems since.
