Message: My 2001 Dakota Quad Cab has a problem shifting from third to fourth gear when full throttle is applied. Once you reach 5200rpm's the engine begins to lurch like it has a rev limiter, but all dealers say there is no limiter and I can't push my 5.9L to its potential. Please help!

Message: I had the same problems on my 00 QC Dakota, there was a vacuum assembly that was bad. It not only effected shifting, but also the air conditioner.
I had to take it in 3 times before tech finally diagnosed it correctly.

Message: I have a 2000 QC 5.9 4x4 with the same problem. Mine will not shift into 2nd from 1st when at wide open throttle. It hits the rev limiter. You have to lift to make it shift. Every other shifting occurences are fine. I took it to the dealer and they replaced a trans cable that was too tight. This did not help the problem at all. I moved the tv cable app. 1/4" and I think I fixed the problem. I will let you know for sure after I can run the truck at WOT again. My problem just happened about 1-2 months ago, so I know it something that is wrong. The dealer says nothing is a matter: that some dakota's do this normally. I told him he is full of bull!! Mine did not do this until recently. It used to run to about 5,300-5,400 rpm and shift correctly. Now it doesn't. Again, I will let you know if the tv cable adjustment fixed it.

Message: We just bought a 2002 Dakota Quad Cab. The vehicle we purchased was not the vehicle we test drove. The test drive vehicle had plenty of power under acceleration. The vehicle we purchased has no acceleration and now won't shift right into second gear. It winds out to about 4500 to 5000 rpms to shift you must let off on the gas for the the vehicle to shift. The dealer of course said the computer found no bad codes for the transmission. We are going to try the dealer one more time and then we want a factory man to look at it. It's interesting that we are not the only ones experiencing this problem. Dodge tough HUH!

Message: My tranny was acting funny as well ('01 4x4 QC 3.9 auto/trans). I also thought it was quite sluggish since the day I drove it off the lot. I bought the service manual, adjusted the TV cable and now it runs like a new truck! I love it even more now!
Get the Service Manual!! ($100.00) That plus the postings in these forums have saved me several trips to a worthless dealer's shop. Thanks.

Message: I also have an 2002 Dakota quad 3.9L. V6 and it somtimes revs up past 4000rpms and refuses to shift until I let up the gas, then it shifts.Towing a tent trailer is a real hassle as it's super sluggish on hills.
I saw a guy towing an ultralight trailer with the same engine. He said his truck did the same thing, and when the mechanic adjusted (replaced?) the Valve body in the tranny, it's been great. Tows no problem.
The dealer here doesn't seem to know what I'm talking about. They keep tightening and loosening the kickdown cable. this does nothing.

Message: I've been fighting a shifting problem since I bought my 02 Dakota QC. It is Very intermitant. Only happens when I have been off road and at high altitude (over 8,000 ft). When I get back on 'flat' roads it shifts several hundred RPMs late, very loud and has no exceleration. After 20 minutes to 12 hrs it goes back to normal. Dealers have yet to diognose or reproduce it. Computer readings say everything is OK. Threw me out of the dealership last time. I hope someone here can help since they can't.

Message: To let some people know if it helps at all but i had a '03 dakota quad cab with the V6 and i beat Dodge in a lemon law case. I got lucky but what i was told by dodges' representative was that the earlier models had tranny problems with shifting up hills. The shiftinf would in and out of gear. The fix for the 03's was to make it stick in gear until the driver realized they were at the desired speed you could let off the gas and it would shift to the next gear. Like i said i got lucky in beating them.....they settled out of court with me and i represented myself. I did alot of research and found TSB's that were Dodges' internal docs. sent to all dealers. I do not remember where i found them however i may have the copies i could send to others who may want them. Hope this may help anyone out there. I know what it feels like to be screwed over by the dealers and Dodge. Also i got my replacement truck from Dodge and the back bumper was Atlantic Blue when the rest of the truck was Patriot Blue. NICE!!!!!!

Message: I can drive my 2001 down the road at highway speed and when I go up a grade it will downshift into direct, but if I drive the same road and put it on cruise it downshifts into direct and go's into passing gear instantly.
I have discovered that there is a aftermarket valve to instal in the tranny that will correct this problem.
My question is? If someone else can do something to correct this problem why can't and won't Chrysler?
I'm interested in hearing from others that have the same sort of problem?
