Subject: Thunderform Wiring IP: Logged
Message: Very interesting in picking up an thunderform...but before I do I have one questions. When I install the box - do I have to sacrifice the rear speakers in order to feed the wires to the amp's line-in? Or can I splice the wires for the amp feed and still keep me rear speakers functioning?

Message: Your rear speakers will still work. You need to install an amp and run speaker wires from your amp to the box while your front and rear sppeakers still operate from your radio. If you choose the amped thunderform then you will hook it up to the outs on your head unit

Message: Yes you certainly could use the stock radio - at least thats what I have heard. Apparently the built in amp has both line level inputs (RCA) as well as Speaker-Level-Inputs.
I am still very confused about the hook up though. If my rear speaker wires are being used by the rear speakers - how do I wire them to the amp as well? Isnt it bad to splice-wire the wires to both amp inputs and speakers at the same time. It seems like it would stress out the factory head unit..... Am I missing something?

Message: So can you splice into the rear speaker wires to hook up to the speaker level ins on the amp or not? I have done it and it works but am i killing my head unit?

Message: If you were killing your head unit it would shut down. The inputs are not really putting up any resistance, the are just sensing input for the music. Your fine.

Message: Groovy - Thanks RT - I will just splice them in to the rear speaker inputs for now and probably throw a couple of caps into the factory speakers to stop them from playing the low notes.
By the way - are those "Bass Blockers" that you see in best buy etc.. any more then glorified capacitors?

Message: Hahah - Thats what I figured..
What really kills me is when I see a 1 Farad Capacitor being sold for several hundred dollars - its amazing what a fancy shrink wrap graphic and a few LEDs can do for you market value...I remember (many moons ago) buying those things through Parts Express and MCM electronics for about 15 bucks....
