Subject: AFTERMARKET SPEAKERS HOW DO I INSTALL IP: Logged
Message: I HAVE A 2002 CC. THE FACTORY SPEAKERS HAVE 3 MOUNTING SCREWS IN A TRIANGLE. ANY AFTERMARKET SPEAKERS HAVE 4 MOUNTING SCREWS. CAN I INSTALL MY SPEAKERS WITHOUT DRILLING HOLES IN THE SHEET METAL INSIDE THE DOOR? IF SO HOW?

Message: Use a spacer ring made out of 3/4 or 1/2 MDF (don't use plywood). Cut the hole for your new speaker and drill out the screw holes so the wood doesn't split.
Then trace your old speaker over the new speakers hole. Then cut just outside of that trace. Drill out the holes where the factory screw went. Mount the ring with factory screws, then mount up your new speakers.
This way you don't have leaks, no metal to drill, and it brings the speaker closer to your door panel.
