Subject: reg. cab. system help please IP: Logged
Message: A couple months ago I purchased a set of 6 1/2" rainbow
audio components, now I am looking to get a sub. I am
planning on sound deadening the doors and sealing the holes
behind the door panel and building a sub box out of glass/mdf.
Questions are
1. what should I use to seal the holes? On a car audio forum a
guy said he uses sheet metal for roofing, the thin stuff that
comes in rolls. Then puts the sound deadener over that. I was
thinking of using plastic from square 4 gallon buckets. I was
afraid to use something that flexible. Maybe with components
its not that big of deal.
2. Where should I place the sub? Obviously behind the seats, but
If it is on the passenger side will it sound different to the driver
than it would the passenger? I could fit it right in the middle but
I like too be able to fit jackets and stuff there, (reg. cabs suck
for space).
3.Recomendations for sub size? I was thinking one 10" would
be plenty. I have heard 8s wont get low enough (tones). I would
even consider a 12". If 8" would sound good I might just put
one on each side.
Sorry for the babbling but I need to get on with this, I dont want
to regret stuff because I will end up wanting to go
back and change it, which would be fine if I was rich. Anyway,
any help would be appreciated.

Anyway I just bought a 12" kenwood excelon shalow mount sub.
and i am going to mount it behind the passenger seat. Stereo guy
says the sub can be mounted any pretty much anywhere without
screwing up imaging.
I am going to seal the doors with plastic and sound deadener. So
I guess the above problems are solved, (if any one actually reads
this)
