Message: Alrighty, I am looking to replace the stock system in my 03 Dakota and slab a sub or two behind the seats (i've got a pair of buckets) with minimal space loss. I am wanting to know what you all recommend for the best sound, keeping the price in check, and nothing too complicated.

Message: Recommend a Pioneer mid line deck, use factory speakers for now. Aftermarket speakers won't really get you any louder, just cleaner. The extra power my be all that you need and if you decide to replace them later on then that's easy swap and you can buy them to power match deck, or a second amp if you want louder. Run a mono bass amp about 150X1 with an 8 inch bazooka tube. If you decide this isn't enough then you can add more later on with the mono amp giving you about 125X2 at 2 ohms. A little power balancing on purchase will make all the difference down the road on how you like your system. If you buy aftermarket speakers for doors rated at 100 wrms then the deck won't push them and it will distort easily, where if you buy speakers rated at 30 wrms and the deck is pushing 25 it will drive them just fine. I've seen this mistake made so many times.
