Subject: Replacing stock stereo/steering wheel IP: Logged
Message: HELP PLEASE! My husband and I were replacing my stock stereo in my 99'Dakota...after rewiring and setting everything up, we got to the last part of it when we realized we didn't know where to connect the steering wheel controller (the part that controls the volume and channels in the steering wheel for the radio) to the new radio. He tried to do some research on it this mornin' and it said something about needing an adapter of some sort. Has anyone run into this problem or can suggest something to get controls on steering wheel to hook up to an after market stereo. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Message: I haven't replaced my stock deck, but I've done a bit of research and know that there are aftermarket steering wheel interface adapters.
The popular around here seems to be the (PAC) SWI-X:

The thing I don't like about the SWI-X is that you have to place this IR-LED somewhere in your vehicle so that it can reach the deck. It's pretty emulating the remote that comes with your deck. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)
The interface I've been looking at is from Soundgate and it hooks up from your steering wheel straight to your deck, but your deck has to have an input for a wired remote:

Note: It looks like on the PAC website, the SWI-ALP steering wheel interface can hook up straight into your deck if it has a wired remote input.
