Subject: Getting thru 2006 Dakota firewall IP: Logged
Message: I need to get power through the firewall to a 2 meter ham radio in a company truck, a 2006 Dodge Dakota SLT. It being a leased company truck means I have to be able to remove it with no trace of it having been there.
For the purposes of this forum, the problem is the same one as needing to get wire to power a high power audio amplifier into the cab. This radio runs about 50 watts max.
Does anyone know of a relatively easy, unobtrusive path through the firewall to get power to the radio?
Alternatively, up under the dash, to the left of the steering wheel there is a blue plug with four conections. It’s right beside a big white plastic “block” that I think has a screw through it (I mention it for locational purposes only.)
Given that my truck is an SLT, there are many options that are not installed on it, and I thought maybe this plug supplied power for some option not used on this model and might be a good way to get 12 V at about 10 amps under the dash. If you know anything about what this is used for, please let me know.
Your assistance would be appreciated.

Message: I always run wires through the existing hole for the wire harness. take the innards out of a pen that unscrews in the middle and push the pen through the hole, on the other side of the firewall, unscrew the pen and insert the wire into the half that is in the hole and push it through. Will only work with a gauge of wire that will fit inside the pen so you may need to find a fat pen.
