Subject: Speaker Size? IP: Logged
Message: Does anyone know the size of the speakers in a 99 CC? I was thinking 6 1/2" in the back and I wasn't sure if it was the same in the front or if it was 5 1/4". Its the factory speakers in there now and that front right one is gone and I personally think the rest sound like crap, so I was wondering if first somebody could tell me the sizes then secondly if anyone could recommend some alternatives. Thanks

Message: Well, on a 2000 CC they are 6 1/2" both front & rear but your not going to get a 6 1/2" into the rears without a bracket/adapter of some kind.
The hole back there is actually something like 7"-7 1/2" and the 6 1/2" speaker will just fall through. (The stock speakers have wing-like extenders thatstick out from the edges of the speakers to reach the nounting holes, my Boston-Acoustics had the holes in the outer ring). When I asked at my local audio shop for an adapter plate, I was told by the only guy available that I would have to get them to make custom MDF adapters (which I could not believe someone hasn't made a replacement adapter already).
If anyone knows if an adapter is already available, please post the brand here.

Message: matt, i don't know for sure but if you go to www.crutchfield.com. on their site there is a feature "What fits my vehicle?". don't take it as gospel but it is usually pretty accurate. it told me i couldn't put 6-3/4" speakers in my fornt doors on my '00 QC -WRONG! they fit no probs.

Message: daddio,
What model speaker? do they sound okay?
I'm getting ready to call crutchfield to have them replace all my speakers. I can't stand not being able to roll the back windows down all the way

Message: fronts- Pioneer 3-way 6-3/4" don't remember the model.
rears - Polk Audio 2-way 6-3/4" db675's
the pioneers sound ok all around. the polk's have more clarity overall though. they are also louder than the pioneers with the same amount of power. i also have a 300w pioneer 4 channel amp and JVC head unit. don't get JVC for a head unit. the cd player is ok but the tuner sucks the big one!
good luck in your quest for sound.
