Message: Hi there,
I recently purchased a new CD player to swap with my stock tape deck in my 1994 Dakota (4wd).
A friend of mine is trying helping me hook it up.
Can someone please help me?
All of our speaker wires are hooked up.
Now comes the problem. All that is left to hook up on the new harness is the Red-Accessory, Yellow-Memory, but on the old harness the wires that are left are,
Pink-(Power mirror switch, Glove box lamp, Overhead Console)
Red/White- (Ignition Switch)
Orange-(Headlamp Switch)
Black/Yellow -(Headlamp Switch)
Green/Red-(Speaker Relay)
The old wiring descriptions above are from the Wiring Harness Diagram given to me from a dealer.
Does anyone know what gets connected to what?
Please help me. I have been without a stereo for almost a week now.
Thanks

Message: Pink is +12V constant, so it goes to the yellow wire on the radio. Red/White is key-on feed, so it goes to the red wire.
The question I have, is why did you cut the old plugs out? It's much easier to use an adapter harness which can be found at any car audio shop- hell, even Walmart would have the one for your truck.

Message: I don't really know much about wiring. My friend thought it would be easy to figure out. So the wires were cut on day one!
We have tried the pink to yellow and the red to red/white. But what about the orange, black/yellow & green/red? There is nothing else free to connect to.

Message: Hi Chad.
Sorry I haven't looked for any replys for a while.I have the diagram at home, I will scan it tomorrow and email you a copy.
I did find out that the orange, black/yellow & red/green do not connect to anything else! At least for my player...we just taped them off.
Seems to work okay...(about a month now without any problems)

If so you probebly hooked the wire from the parking lights (labeled as a dimmer) to a wire in the deck that goes to GROUND.
Most aftermarket decks do not even HAVE a dimmer input. So just leave that wire un hooked and taped up.
