Subject: sub in custom center console IP: Logged
Message: I had an idea to make a custom console for my '95 extended cab. I would like the arm rest to be about 5 inches taller, I was going to add decent cup holders since the ones above the glove box don't hold a 20 oz bottle of soda. I am also goig to mount my CB there.
I thought while I was at it I could put a subwoofer in there. My idea is to mount a Bazooka tube facing to thr rear and build around it. My question is, how do bazookas sound? It would either be the 6.5" or the 8" if I can make the 8 fit. I have never heard a bazooka tube and have no idea how they sound. IS there a company that makes a good 6.5 sub. I can get a tube with a cheap sub for $20 and upgrade to a better sub if I can find one.
Any thoughts?

Message: Do a search, I remember a couple of people building downfiring center console sub boxes for a 10" sub, one even had the cupholders you talked about. Check out boatersworld.com or a marine parts store for the cup holders, they come in white and black. I installed a couple in my boat's engine cover last year. They look big enough for a 20 oz soda, but I haven't tried it.
If your building a center console why build around a bakooka tube, just make a portion of the center console a sealed encolsure for the sub.

Message: That was my first idea but not down-firing. Wouldn't I lose a lot of my sound that way? Also, I'm not sure a 10" would fit. I think I only measured 9" or so between the seats. I'll have to measure again.
Regarding the tool tray, I tried to pull them out but I got one nut on each side off and then the other one just spins. Do I need someone under the truck holding the other end?

Message: If I build a downfiring sealed box w/ 2 10"s, should I seperate the subs or just have one chamber?

Message: If the subs are running off a bridged or mono amp it can be a common open chamber, if running them off seperate amp channels put the subs in 2 seperate chambers. I would personally make seperate chambers so no matter what the configuration it will be OK.

Message: you need seperate chambers for each sub (hopefully with similar volume) it will sound better this way and put less stress on the woofers.
