Subject: Speaker Installation IP: Logged
Message: The guy at Circuit City told me that the rear speakers are very difficult to install. Just wondering if anyone can vouch for this guy or if they have the Crutchfield Master Sheets to install these. The speakers I have in mind are the infinity 6002i 6.5's.

Message: If you've got a regular extended cab it's a royal PITA to change the back speakers. For the extended cab, i would higly recommend buying a star driver bit to remove the seat belt mount.
Also, after market replacement speakers have -4- holes. Dodge speakers have -3- holes. Buying an adapter plate from Crutchfield is well worth the $5 per speaker.

Message: CC rear speaker installation is a PITA because you need to remove, the back panel (bolts and christmas tree panel clips), seat belt retainers (large torx bit tighter than a ____), upper side panels, finally after removing all these parts you can remove the lower side panels which the speakers sit behind. Now that you have all the panels off you can bolt a 4 hole speaker to DC's 3 hole mount. Hopefully you have not broken any of the 20+ panel retainers because they are an odd size which is very difficult to find at auto parts stores, Dodge had them but I refused to pay $3 each for the 2 that were buggered up. All in all it's not an easy install, front speakers 15-30 minutes per side, rear speakers will take a couple of hours, more if you don't have all the stuff and have to go hunting tools or parts.

Message: For the 03 dak club cab, it is not that difficult. Take out the seat belt bolts, and then the upper plastic pieces. They are held in with the plastic inserts with "fin/rings". then you can bend out the bottom pieces enough to get them in. Yopu will want to take off the rear bench seats. It is kind of a pain in the ass, but once you get into it, maybe a 4 hour job.

Message: Just wanted give an update for future reference. I installed all four speakers myself using the Crutchfield Mastersheets and some enginuity. Front door speakers took around 1 hr. total(45mins for first one, 15mins 2nd one) and needed a bit of grinding off plastic on the adapter plates. The rear speakers were much harder but very do-able. With a bit of drilling and a vicious fight with the bottom panels trying to get them back in, only took about 2.5-3hrs total(for rears only). All in all, definitely glad I didnt pay for installation and love the much better sound. The speakers I put in were 6.5" Infinity Reference 6002si's.
