Message: The system I put in my '02 QC was around that cost, maybe like $200 more. I agree you can buy the seperates for up front last in order to save some $ out of the gate.

Message: do you want to bang hard or just something that sounds good?? i would recommened maybe 1 10, for a nice clean sound because if you want to get into it for a quad cab. the only real way is behind the back seats and that a fiberglass box n its kinda expensive. there is no space for a box in the back seats if you want to take people you know. there is a box that goes in the center consle and it fits 1-10. As for a head unit, if you have a i-pod you can get a adapter to hook it up so you dont waste like 200-300 bills on 1. just make sure the head unit has a adapter. but get front speakers w/ a tweeter. you'll hear a difference

Message: Check out my installation here. It's 2 kicker Solobaric eights and a Rockford 500 watt amp. I still need to change out the stock speakers and I plan on taking it all out in 2 weeks so I can build a fiberglass box and try to use as much space as I can. It hits pretty good but I think with the larger fiberglass enclosure it will hit harder and sound better.

Message: I would recommend a Clarion HU NIB off ebay (great sound quality/features, great power for speakers (the DXZ765MP is 53Wx4)), and JL Audio speakers, amp, sub. Shop on ebay and do it smart and you can get in on your budget. Get coaxial speakers (XR-650-cxi) and power them with the deck, you won't have to buy a 4 channel amp, save $$$. They won't sound as good as amp powered comps but they will still be miles above stock. 1 10" sub, mono amp, prebuilt truck box. There are many other routes you can take but not quality under $1000.
