Subject: rockford fosgate subs overrated? IP: Logged
Message: ok, heres my scoop:
i constructed a cardboard "replica" of one of the q-logic 10" truck boxes- the .6510se, to be more specific. i then put the cardboard "wedge" behind my seat. it fit, but it was RIGHT UP on the seat- theres like no space whatsoever between the back of the seat and the front side of the box- so my conclusion was that i need to downsize to the q-logic 8" truck box- only 7 inch at bottom instead of 8 and vertically shorter (12 instead of 14), less wide, and top depth is a little less.
anyways, ive been researching and looking at buying the q-logic qlt .3508se (only 47 at sounddomain.com instead of 60 at crutchfield.com) and a 8inch sub. theres not alot of selection for 8 inch subs- but i think ive narrowed it down to a few-
a)rockford fosgate punch HE2 rfp4108- $70- 35-200 Hz, 500W max 250W recommended RMS,
b) rockford fosgate punch hx2 rfd2208 - $75- 40-400hz, 800w max, power range 130-400w rms
c) cerwin bega 84- $80, 250w rms, 500w max, 25-500hz
d) polk audio mm series mm2084- $90, 26-200 hz, 200w rms recommended, 400w max
e) audiobahn aw800q high excursion- $80, 300w rms, 34hz-1khz
f) mtx audio thunder6000 t684a- $75, 30-150hz, 150w rms, 300w max
g) kicker compvr 03cvr84-$90, 30-500hz, 200w rms, 400w max
g)image dynamics id8 v.3-$90, 10-150hz, 175w rms, 350w max
h) audiobahn aw831t- $50?- 30-1000hz, 200w rms, 400w max
ok wow maybe that wasnt a few, but those are the ones im looking at.
can anybody recommend any of this? any of this NOT worth buying?
also- the specs for the rf subs- punch he2, etc- they dont go into the 20's at ALL- only like 30-300 or 40-400hz- ive read reviews of them- all highly praising them, for "hitting hard" and what not- but do they not go very low? right now im leaning towards buying the $70 punch he2 at sounddomain.com with the 47 q-logic 8inch truck box- is this a good combo?
also- for subs, i think i might eventually (later after i save up some more money) buy the rf 351s sub- 150 at sounddomain.com. one thing- is it important/significant that this sub does NOT have speaker-level inputs- is this only for amplifying your speakers- rear 5X7 or front 5.5" speakers? so this does not matter to me, as im only looking to buy a 2-channel amp for my 8 inch rf sub? also what gauge wire will i need to buy?
i know this is really long but any help would truly be appreciated
thanks

I got the Infinity Kappa Perfect 10" sub in the truck style box it comes with at crutchfield. It is a tad too deep and you need to move the seat up about 2-3 clicks from the back but its on the passenger side so i dont care, and i've had a 6' or so person ride with me, and he said he was still comfortable. IMO it's an AWESOME sounding sub, ive had people stunned when they heard that i only have 1 10" in there. It hits perfectly and nocks really hard! It's powered by the Kicker KX600.1
Consider this, and do some research before you buy...also use Yahoo Shopping, chances are you will find the cheapest price on the net with them.

Message: You forgot Memphis amps. For subs they slam harder and cooler than anything I've run

Message: Those frequency numbers are for the speaker in free air, not in a box which will change it's output (sometimes drasitically).
So, just make sure you pick a sub that works in small sealed box of the size your building and you'll be OK as those are all quaility subs. If possible try to listen to them since your ears will be the final judge. Just keep in mind with subs it's mostly the install that matters.
I don't conpletely understand your amp question but you'll need an amp to power the subs for sure. A two channel amp running in bridged mono will work - just watch your ohm load(s). Depending on the size (watts) you'll need 8 or 6 gauge power wire and 12-14 gauge speaker wire will be fine.
