Hey all I am Buiding a sub box to replace seet bottom in cc am to the point I want to fiberglass the bottom due to irregular floor. How many layers of fiberglass does everyone recomend Thanx in advance. drew

If the sides are sealed to the floor you really dont need to fiberglass it unless you want it to be removeable. Add some sound dampening material though.

Glass it until the bottom won't flex. I have 3 layers where the floor bends and another 3-4 layers where the floor is flat. If the glass flexes, the sub isn't going to be happy. I don't know about using the floor of the Dak as the box bottom since the sheet metal will flex, if you can push on the metal and it gives the sub won't like it.
I am making 2 boxes that go in the corners which leaves about 20" of room in between them for the jack, jumper cables, etc. Lucked out and made the boxes .75 cu ft, just right for the RF 10's. The rear seats are adjusted all the way up in the stock location and the boxes are higher in the front so the jack will clear the seats. Nice to add the subs without losing all the under seat storage.

thanks DSW so far I have 3layers od\f glass guess I'll add another couple. I was also thinking of spraying rubberized undercoating inside the box befor i seal it. Mine will have a 10" sub on one side and a 12disk cd changer on the other side facing out from under the seat.

Hey 2ndDak, undercoating can be realy messy as it doesn't dry for a loooong time, might get all funky with the poly fill in the box too. I sprayed the underside of my last truck and it took a year for the stuff to dry. Kind of sucked working under the truck and getting the undercoat all over myself. I bet if you did a good job of glassin the box you won't have to worry about air leaks. I filled my box with water 1/2 way and prayed that it didn't leak onto the MDF, didn't have any leaks. The resin I was using was thick like pancake syrup so it filled the voids and stuck to everything nicely.
I am putting 10s in the 2 boxes and a 6 disk CD changer in between them. Plenty of room in between the boxes for other things too. The box fronts are 5 1/2" high so the seats will have a little more angle, but it allows for mounting the changer, extra storage and more air volume in the sub boxes.
The hardest part of building the boxes was designing them. I maximized the useable area by making the MDF box slide up against the sheet metal side wall and under the plastic side panel. The boxes fit against the back and side of the truck, with a kick out for the seat belt retractor. Yeah they are pretty complicated. Guess If I had made the entire box of glass (minus the top) it would have been easier than building this multi angle MDF monster. I am mounting a filler panel to the box fronts so there is somewhere to locate the changer and seal off the storage area too.

Your idea sounds great. I have been thinking of how to do mine the same way for about a month now. But my problem is that I want to place my amps in the middle along with the caps that I have. I have only got rough measurements so far, but I think this weekend I am going to rip out the back seats and the storage compartment as well. Anyways I was just wondering if you had any pics of the setup...

ram98, I'll see if I can get a hold of a dig cam so I can post some pics. Should have had one so I could show the progress of the install. I have all of the building done, just painting the boxes at this time. The boxes and floor of the truck are painted black and the filler panel is carpeted. I am placing the amps and caps under the seats so I don't hog up all the storage space under the rear seats.
