Subject: Systems in 87-96 Dakotas IP: Logged
Message: Anyone have any pics, suggestions, tips on installing any stereo related items in an 87-96 Dakota?
I am looking for ideas. Already upgrading all 4 speakers to 6.5" (components in the front to raise the sound stage, coaxials in the back).
I am particularly interested in any custom sub work, like under the rear seat in place of the storage compartment, etc.
Thanks!

Message: I am working on a wave guide box for my 94' CC. I have an Alpine head going to an alpine EQ. The EQ's brain is mounted under the center seat section while the brain is mounted instead of the cupholder. Lets face it the cup holder is practicly worthless, so why not replace it with something that has flashing lights? The brain then connects to an alpine 4 channel amp and a 2 channel amp for the subs. I have boston seperates in the front and replaced the rear speakers with boston plates, tried to stick to the idea that 6x9s will always distort when i put in the plates. As for the subs I have a pair of boston 8.5 pros which are plenty for right behind the driver. I remover one seat in the back and made a plate for the tool box so I could mount the subs motor up. Hopefully I can get my new box built, but you would be amazed how many bends they put in the sheet metal under that toolbox. When I am done I should be able to send some pics

Message: I have a '88 standard cab with quite a few hours put into the system. I Dynamatted the whole cab, 3 fosgate hx2 12's, fosgate components in the doors, kenwood 5x7's in the pillars all driven by a Kenwood X617 and epicenter. I cut a hole through the bed and cab and joined the 2 with a boot gasket. like the ones used to connect a cap to the cab through removing the rear window. In the bed I welded a box around the hole, smoothed it out and painted it to match the rest of the truck. On the side facing the tailgate, I made a locking door with air vents. This gives me easy access to the amps mounted on the back of the sub box it also allows me to take the sub box in and out of the truck without having to remove the seat. Any toneau cover will fit right over it. I just wanted to make sure no water will get inside the compartment. In the cab I carpeted the rear wall to match the front of the sub box which comes flush to the wall. I'm working on adding a page to my website that has all the photos i took when i was installing everything. Should be up soon.
check for updates at, www.liqudus.com/truck
I'll also post here when its up.
peace,
Steve

Message: Steve D,
Have you ever seen www.decware.com ? They have a sub box called the wicked one and it is unreal. I built one and it is unreal. It is definatly different, but too big for the cab of a dak but would go well in the bed. Just figured I would fill you in in case you ever wanted anymore bass this would be a good place to start looking since you already have a hole through to the cab. I can't wait to see what you have.

Message: If you take it on it is extremely helpful to have access to a table saw. Unless the edges are cut to the right angle a lot of fiberglassing is involved.

Message: I hAve a 93 Dakota Club Cab. I replaced the head unit with a Premier tape deck with cd changer controls. The front door speakers were replaced with Premier 6-1/2" speakers and the rear speakers were replaced with Premier 5x7 two ways. I previously had 2 10" speakers in a box that replaced the rear seats and their brackets. I mounted the origonal seat cushions to the top of the box and the system looked completely stock.
That speaker box is for sale. I was hoping to get $25 for it and shipping. It weighs 57 lbs and it would be shipped from 18014.
I have pictures of everything at www.geocities.com/geek_farm/truck.html
