Subject: 1 ohm question. IP: Logged
Message: i have 2channel 4-2-4 ohm amp....connected to 4 speakers...which means i am at 2 ohms.
if i crossover the negative connections to the amp, does this make it a 1 ohm and up the amperage? safely?
does this also make it a mono system?
another question...
if have 150watts rms per channel...and 2 speakers per channel...and i add resistors so the back speakers do not overpower the fronts...does this mean the front speaker will then receive more than 75watts rms?...or in other words does this mean the front speaker watts input will increase dependent on resistor size installed?

Message: Frist of all is your amp stable at one ohm? I don't think your going to find a 2 channel that is stable at one ohm. So the best thing to do is go out & buy a one ohm stable amp. Which is a class D mono amp.

Message: If your amp is two ohm stable then you can't run it in one ohm - mono OR stereo. Not sure what you mean by crossingover the negative connections on your amp :o that will screw things up for sure!
As for question #2, no the resistor will drop the power to the rear speakers, it can't add power to the fronts.

***I never was afraid to ask stupid questions.
I was told by a supposed knowledgable installer to cross the negatives...was just curious if that would make it mono(i don't want mono).
the whole thing sounded wrong to me so i asked around.
tks for the answers.
i'm going to connect 4 speakers to the amp in parallel.
not sure if the infinity head unit in a 2000 R/T has rca's to connect to the amp.

Message: AnotherDakGuy is RIGHT. Dude the way you explain that question is scary. Number 2 there are 2 channel amps that are 1 ohm stable I dont know what planet J.D. Lennon is from. Man go to a car audio shop tell them what ohm load each of your subs are and what kinda amp you have Im sure they will be glad to help you out.
