Subject: Factory CD/Cassette Stereo

I recently purchased an 01 CC with 3.9L and I love the truck. The only change I want to make is to replace my stock AM/FM cassette stereo with a AM/FM cassette & CD combo. I've been all over the place looking for one (even the salvage resellers). So far I have the following info:

One specialty stereo place says Sanyo is the only unit that is available. Don't go with a CD changer add on as the sound quality is lower (with the antenna connected through the changer and you listen to a frequency on the radio), but replace with all like items (such as pioneer radio with cassette with cd changer input to retain the quality) According to them the stock combo unit is a piece of junk and is replaced quite often due to problems.

I don't have a high opinion of Sanyo, and I feel after doing more research that the stereo place was trying to do their sales pitch to have me buy items that I may not need.

By the way, the salvage yard says they can't keep them in stock as to the high demand and they are very hard to find.

Thoughts...Comments?

I've got a CD/Tape/Radio out of my wife's 2001 Stratus Coupe available. Same shape, style, and connectors as in the Dakota. I had it in my 2001 CC for a couple months before taking out and putting it on a shelf. If you want it, make me an offer.

Sound great! (no pun intended)

Why'd you take it out of the Stratus and truck? What's your opinion of the unit?

Well, my truck came with just the AM/FM Radio and I wanted CD's. The wife wanted an amp and sub in her car, so I had to put in an aftermarket head unit in her car. So I figured, I'd just put the cd/tape/radio from her car in my truck. It sounded pretty good, but I had an aftermarket CD player from my old Neon laying around collecting dust, so I decided to put that in. The cd/tape/radio was in perfect working order when I removed it. I've also got some pics if you'd like to see them.
